4711 Original Eau de Cologne is a citrus aromatic fragrance for women and men, credited to Wilhelm Muelhens and dating from 1792. It is a cologne in the oldest sense of the word: lemon, bergamot and orange at the top, bright and almost astringent, with rosemary and lavender giving a clean herbal lift rather than any sweetness. Neroli and petitgrain leave a green, bitter-orange trace as it goes. Nothing about it is hidden, and nothing about it develops. It fades very quickly and stays close to the skin, and it suits spring and summer daytime.
