Aromatics Elixir is a floral chypre for women, composed by Bernard Chant for Clinique in 1971 and the oldest fragrance the house makes. Chamomile, clary sage and lemon verbena open it herbal and bitter with aldehydes and coriander sharpening the edge. A wide floral heart follows, rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine, tuberose and carnation over orris root, but it never turns pretty. The base is the classic chypre bed of oakmoss and patchouli with incense, vetiver and sandalwood. Severe and unmistakable. It lasts a long time and projects strongly, and it works in autumn and winter, day or night.
