Knowing is a chypre floral for women, composed by Harry Fremont for Estée Lauder in 1988. Aldehydes, mimosa and coriander open it sharp and green over rose and tuberose, with plum and melon adding a brief fruit sweetness, and the heart is spiced and woody rather than pretty: cardamom, bay leaf and cedar around jasmine, orange blossom and orris root. The base carries the real weight, oakmoss and patchouli with civet, vetiver and sandalwood underneath. It lasts a long time and projects strongly, and it works in autumn and winter, day or night.
