Rare Gold is a floral aldehyde for women, composed by Olivier Cresp for Avon in 1995. Ylang-ylang and peach open it rich with mandarin and bergamot lifting them, then the heart is a dense white bouquet of tuberose, jasmine, orange blossom and gardenia, with aldehydes giving it the soapy sparkle the family is named for. Amber, sandalwood, vanilla and musk make the base warm and powdery. Big-shouldered, in the manner of its decade. It lasts only a moderate while but projects strongly, and it works in winter and autumn, day or night.
