Portrait of a Lady is an oriental floral for women, composed by Dominique Ropion for Frederic Malle and released in 2010. Turkish rose is the centre of it, made darker and denser by clove and cinnamon, raspberry and blackcurrant, and an enormous patchouli. Incense, benzoin, sandalwood and ambergris hold the base. It takes its name from the Henry James novel of 1881 and its heroine, Isabel Archer, which tells you the register: Victorian, formal, a little severe. It lasts a long time and projects strongly, and belongs to autumn and winter evenings.
