Avant Garde is an oriental woody fragrance for men, composed by Shyamala Maisondieu for Lanvin in 2011. Two peppers and juniper open it dry and prickly over bergamot, and then the unusual part arrives: beeswax in the heart, honeyed and slightly waxy, set against lavender, cardamom and nutmeg. Tobacco, benzoin and amber make the base warm and resinous with vetiver running underneath. The perfumer named beeswax and tobacco as the materials she wanted to surprise with. It lasts a moderate while and projects moderately, and it suits winter and autumn, day or night.
