Magie Noire is a chypre floral for women, created for Lancôme in 1978 by Gerard Goupy, Jean-Charles Niel and Yves Tanguy, and its name is French for black magic. Galbanum and blackcurrant open it green and sharp with raspberry and Bulgarian rose behind them, then the heart turns heavy and honeyed around narcissus, tuberose and jasmine. The base is the point: oakmoss, patchouli and vetiver with incense and myrrh, animalic from the civet and warmed by amber. Dark rather than pretty. It lasts a long time and projects strongly, and it belongs to autumn and winter evenings.
