L'Ambre des Merveilles is an oriental vanilla for women and men, composed by Jean-Claude Ellena for Hermès in 2012. Four materials, listed without a pyramid, and the whole thing is amber: labdanum giving it a sweet, slightly leathery resin, vanilla smoothing it out, patchouli adding earth and a cool edge. Ellena keeps it transparent where most ambers are thick, so it reads warm and powdery rather than heavy. Restrained by the standards of its genre. It lasts a moderate while and projects moderately, and it works day or night in autumn and winter.
