Rive Gauche pour Homme is an aromatic fougere for men, composed by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud for Yves Saint Laurent in 2003. Star anise and rosemary open it cool and licorice-tinged over bergamot, and the heart is a textbook fougere built on lavender and geranium, spiced with cloves and made sweet and hay-like by coumarin. The base is dark and dry, guaiac wood and patchouli over oakmoss and vetiver. Classical in shape but heavier than most. It lasts a long time and projects strongly, and it suits spring, autumn and winter, day or night.
